A brand says my rate is too high. How do I negotiate without just caving and working for less?

Anchor first and anchor high, you can always come down. Price each deliverable separately so cuts are easy: if they want a lower price, remove a deliverable or shorten usage, never just drop your rate for the same work. Lead with the value you drive, stay calm and be willing to walk. Caving once sets your rate forever with that brand.

How to hold your rate

Negotiation is about scope, not caving on price.

Anchor high first

Open with your real rate. You can always come down.

Trade scope, not price

Lower budget means fewer deliverables, not free work.

Be ready to walk

Walking away is the strongest position you have.

Anchor high. I quote my real rate and let them counter. Starting low just caps where you can land.

Trade scope for price. Want it cheaper? Drop a deliverable or shorten usage. Never same work for less.

Being willing to walk is the strongest position. The deals I almost walked from paid the most.
