How do creators keep track of income and expenses so tax season is not a nightmare? What can I even write off?

Open a separate bank account for creator money so business and personal never mix, that one move makes everything else easy. Log every payment as it lands, cash, affiliate and gifted product at fair market value. Then save receipts for anything you use to create: gear, software, a share of your phone and internet, props, a home office. Those are write-offs that cut your taxable income. A simple spreadsheet or an app does the job. General info, not tax advice.

Separate the money first

One dedicated account for creator income and spend. Mixing is the root of tax chaos.

Log income as it lands

Every payment, including gifted product at fair value. Catching up in April is misery.

Save every receipt

Gear, software, phone and internet share, props, home office. They lower your tax.

Pick one system

A spreadsheet or an app, it does not matter. What matters is you actually use it.

Separate account plus a simple spreadsheet I update weekly. Tax season went from a panic to an afternoon.

People forget the phone and internet portion, editing apps, even a chunk of rent for a home office. Real money back if you track it.

Log gifted product at fair value as you get it. Reconstructing a year of PR boxes from memory in April is impossible.
